Where Do I See Myself In Five Years: My Dream Life in 2030

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. As I near 40, I feel as if I am at a crossroads, my industry niche, content marketing and content management is being disrupted and transformed even while people still say ‘content is king’, I feel as if we are all drowning in content as we all shout into the void and try to capture someone’s attention for longer than three seconds.

So where does that leave me? I am a mid-career editor and content manager and I feel exhausted by day to day activities that feel routine and that lack impact and excitement. But does a job need to have excitement? In 2025, should we realistically expect corporations and businesses to offer us fulfilment?

I don’t think so.

So I am slowly building a life that I love, enjoy, feel grateful for each day and focusing inwards on what I have control of, where I need to pour my energy and desires? So where do I see myself in five years? What’s my dream life look like in 2030?

My Dream Life In 2030

This isn’t a career projection or wealth or network projection post. It is what I want my dream life to feel like.

I dream of slow mornings where I am not anxious or worried about what my inbox will look like or to even wake up thinking about Teams calendars or phone calls or meetings.

I want to wake up naturally and feel refreshed, and energised. Then, I want to hydrate, brew my coffee and sip it slowly while re-connecting and hearing how my partner slept and what they plan for the day.

I wish my days are filled with ease and comfort and calm.

I want adventure and travel to new places and experiencing new cultures while also discovering or rediscovering places in Jamaica that interest and excite me.

I want to be surrounded by colour, beauty and art and music.

In my dreams, I live in a space that affords me a room of my own to create, write, dream, read and simply be in my own thoughts and company. And at the same time, I want space to entertain, host my loved ones, family and friends.

A simple life that feels good, where when I look back in the next 25 to 30 years, I will feel as if satisfied that I indeed spent my time well.

Life Right Now

I also want to add that I am not waiting for 2030 to roll around to build this dream life. I am taking action right now. I focusing on living a life that feels aligned and easy. I am happy and grateful for the career I have had this far and as I seek to expand and grow, I will focus on opportunities that fit who I am at my core rather than to contort to suit corporate agendas.

Presently, I am prioritising my relationships. My relationship with my family, friends and loved ones. I am also working on acknowledging and taking care of my needs. These needs include adequate rest, nourishing meals, daily movement, journaling and planning, keeping my promises to myself and shifting to living a happy and ‘spendful’ life.

  1. This resonated with me. At this point I don’t think I’ll ever feel truly fulfilled and happy in my career but I do think I have the power and drive to make the most of my life outside of work. Starting now instead of waiting for what we think is the right time is key to truly living in the moment and really making the most of our lives. I’ll be doing this side by side with you.

    1. Yes. We’re doing this together. We have the power to shift focus away from careers and the corporate ladder to what truly matters, our home, our families, friendships and relationships. And also most importantly our relationship with ourselves. We can do this. We have to. It is our one life.

  2. I am also struggling to decide what a fulfilling life looks like for me. Fulfillment and not just hitting milestones.

    1. Yes I definitely understand. Try to take some time in these last few months of 2025 to really consider and decide what you want your life to feel like, not just titles or what it looks like to someone looking in at you and judging but what and who you are for you and where you want to be. I hope this helps.
